Her name tag reads, “Evelyn Hooker.” Dr. Evelyn Hooker was a pioneering scientist who collaborated with the Southern California Mattachine Society to become "the first professional to assemble a non-patient (not institutionalized) gay men, and and match them with a group of heterosexuals with similar demographic characteristics" for a study wherein all men were asked a series of psychological tests and professionals--who were given no information on the participants' sexualities--were unable to distinguish homosexuals from heterosexuals. Her work would contribute to the American Psychiatric Association's decision to remove Homosexuality from its list of mental disorders in 1973.
