Biography or History:
In August of 1992, the LGBT activist group Queer Nation held a boycott and multiple protests of the Unocal 76 gas station on 6th and Robinson in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego, a historically Gay neighborhood. The protest was organized by Queer Nation member Allan Ross and after his roommate, Tom Delp, after Delp alleged he had been violently attacked for being Gay by a homophobic co-worker at the Unocal 76 gas station. The protests took place between August 7 - August 14 until the owners of the station reached a settlement. The owners of the gas station fired the alleged attacker and required all employees take sensitivity training classes at the San Diego Lesbian and Gay Men's Community Center, to which they made a $1,000 donation. On October 12, 1992 the station manager, Bill Lushbaugh held a flag raising ceremony at the station for a rainbow flag that would signal to the San Diego Lesbian and Gay community that the gas station was "now a gay-friendly business." Tom Delp, Keith Ramsay, Allan Ross and others from Queer Nation attended the ceremony and gave the station copies of local Lesbian and Gay newspapers for the station (Conlan, 1992).
