1st Annual Dyke March 3rd and University

Footage from the first annual San Diego Dyke March in San Diego, which took place on July 9, 1994. The march began near the intersection of 3rd Ave. and University Ave. and ended with a rally at the Lesbian and Gay Men's Community Center, then located at 3916 Normal St. Wendy Sue Biegeleisen can be seen directing marchers and providing instruction about the route. Speaking at the rally were Molly McKay (emcee), Tyna Hector, Jenora Lewis (keynote speaker), Dorianne Erickson Moore, Beth McHale, Ellen Hines. Tyna Hector began the rally with a reading of Pat Parker's poem "Where Will You Be?" Jenora Lewis spoke about the importance of activism, education, dialogue, justice, and diversity within the Lesbian movement. Dorianne Erickson Moore spoke about the Disabled Lesbian community and the disparities they face within the community. Ellen Hines, a local musician, played Lesbian songs and the rally ended with the Lesbian Avengers' traditional fire-eating ritual.
